Freemasons

Over the last eighteen months, Brighton duo the Freemasons have become one of the most in demand remix and production teams in dance music. Some of the biggest artists in the world have been clamouring for their golden touch and it’s rare to find a dance compilation that doesn’t feature at least one of their releases.

The new album, Shakedown, is out now and we asked some of the guys over at GaydarRadio for their points of view.

"My favourite track is their remix of Beyonce’s ‘Déjà vu’, purely as I associate the track with so many amazing events that happened to me last year - especially Brighton Pride. It's one of the most amazing remixes they have ever done and even now the lyrics give me goose-bumps. This is easily in a league of its own!"
Gary H

"My favourite track from the new Freemasons album has got to be Faith Evans' ‘Mesmerized’. The production on this track typifies their extraordinary remixing skills as it manages to lift a fairly mediocre r'n'b song into a guaranteed house club floor filler. It’s also the first mix of theirs where you can really identify their unique sound. Outstanding!"
Simon Le Vans

"For me it has to be ‘Love On My Mind’. When we first started playing this track it became the biggest request on my show. Every time it was played the boys and the girls in the chat room went mad; I had calls coming in saying they were dancing like mad and I felt I was with them. It was played throughout the summer in all the clubs and when I hear it now it reminds me of warmer times. I love it love it love it."
Sam Vangeen

“It’s impossible to pick out a favourite track because there are so many! But if you were to ask me to pick just one, it would have to be Blaze and Barbra Tucker’s ‘Most Precious Love’. Not only is it an awesome remix and great track in its own right, but it also comes connected with loads of great memories including nights clubbing at Beyond in Vauxhall. Also, seeing the guys perform it at the House Music Awards in 2005. Its’ a club classic!”
Neil Sexton

“There are so many favourite tracks to choose from - the album is stuffed full of them - but if you the highlight is ‘Love On My Mind’. Not only is it a great salute to classic disco, but Amanda Wilson’s vocals are outstanding. Plus, whenever I hear it I'm reminded of nights out clubbing at DTPM in Farringdon. Happy days.”
Robin Crowley

Shakedown is an incredible album. Its feel good factor knows no bounds and it's almost impossible to choose a favourite. However, there is one track in particular that always gets cranked up if I'm in the car, getting dolled up for a night out, or just doing the household chores. I've even broken a plate and a wine glass out of excitement when that Katherine Ellis vocal kicks in. The track is ‘Nothing But A Heartache’. It has a camp 70s disco feel to it, a relentless beat and is pure Freemasons gold. The sax solo twinned with the thumping baseline is just genius. Fingers crossed that Freemasons release it as a single as it's a sure-fire number 1 in the making!”
Yannick

“The Freemasons came to my attention when they first released ‘Love On My Mind’, which I couldn’t stop playing. My favourite track from their new album has to be ‘Zap Me Lovely’ which became hugely popular because it was the Nokia theme tune in the now infamous adverts. I love it because it’s uplifting and funky and makes you want to get on the dance floor and go mad!”
Neil Martin

“I love any tune with vocals by Amanda Wilson and I’m so glad the Freemasons chose her to sing on ‘Watchin’’. It has everything a good dance track should have: an infectious beat, a fabulous uplifting feeling and amazing vocals that you can sing your heart out too. For that reason alone it makes it my absolute favourite track on the new album."
