Around the World in 80 Days

Their mother must be so proud. Owen and Luke Wilson have slowly, but steadfastly, become hot property in Hollywood. Appearing as the Wright brothers in this week's release, Around the World in 80 Days and with their quirky good looks and considerable acting talents making them headline news, Totty Watch thought it was about time to take a look at the sexy siblings.

Owen is the one who looks like a scruffy surfer dude and has a double broken nose adding character to his mischievous magnetism. He played the David Soul character in the recent big screen adaptation of Starsky and Hutch. Luke is the traditionally handsome one with dark hair. You probably recognise him but aren't sure where from. He's the youngest. And then there's Andrew - bet you didn't even know there was a third brother! Well there is and he's the eldest and keeps a very low profile.

Vital Statistics
Owen Cunningham Wilson: born 18 November 1968; Luke Cunningham Wilson: born 21 September 1971; Andrew Wilson: born 22 August 1964 - do you think he's jealous that he doesn't share his brother's middle name? The boys were all born in Dallas, Texas.

Famous For
A long and fruitful friendship began when Owen met the writer and director Wes Anderson at university. That friendship spawned the little seen Bottle Rocket, the indie gem Rushmore and the Oscar nominated The Royal Tenenbaums. Owen co-wrote and starred alongside his two brothers in all three films. Despite a dire return at the box office, Bottle Rocket gained a huge cult following on video prompting Disney to fund Rushmore and set the boys up for stardom.

In between the quirky character studies, Owen he had a long affair with Sheryl Crow and became famous for his early demise in less critically acclaimed fodder like Anaconda, The Haunting and Armageddon. More notably he's perfected the goofy sidekick role by pairing up with Jackie Chan and Eddie Murphy in Shanghai Noon/Knights and I-Spy respectively. Whether it be an indie, a blockbuster or a not particularly funny comedy Owen seems to saunter through the script in a stoned like daze leaving a trail of wry, dry one-liners behind him. He doesn't appear to be taking himself or anyone else too seriously.

Luke says he fell into acting mainly because Owen kept on writing parts for him. He certainly has no regrets and has worked his way through a number of leading ladies. He's played the cute boyfriend to Cameron Diaz (Charlie's Angels), Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde), Kate Hudson (Alex and Emma) and Drew Barrymore - who he had a longterm relationship with, but then who hasn't?

Luke's well aware that men find him sexy. "I have a certain casual way," he's said. "Men want to be with me and I want to be a woman!" Nooooo! You don't have to be that extreme Luke. He's also said that he'd be happy to play a drag queen, which would hopefully be, as far as he'd go.

Owen and Luke have lived together for a long time. Luke once said that when Owen is 'entertaining'’ he locks the doors and Luke has to sleep in the car. They're all undeniably close and sibling rivalry doesn't seem to be an issue even when Owen had to snog Luke's real-life girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow in The Royal Tenenbaums.

As for Andrew, he remains aloof and mysterious and virtually nothing is known about him. Married to a Nigerian woman he has a son with her, but never participates in the publicity machine surrounding the brothers' films. Although he's recently finished directing The Wendell Baker Story with Luke, the story of an ex-con trying to go straight. Determined to keep it in the family Owen and Luke wrote it and will be starring in it too. But despite their rise up Hollywood's hierarchical ladder Owen and Luke maintain that Andrew is a happy chappy. If their latest venture is a hit he might be forced to come out of the shadows and join them in the spotlight. There seems to be no stopping the Texan trio.

Worth Knowing
Bottle Rocket was one of the least popular films ever screen tested by Columbia Pictures, however Martin Scorsese called it one of the ten best movies of the nineties.

"I want to get to the bottom of that guy as much as you do." Owen on Andrew

Owen was expelled from his exclusive boys’ school for cheating in an exam.

Availability
"I prefer tanned, dark haired girls. But I like blondes too," Luke has said. Fussy then.

There seems to be little evidence that some boy on boy action might tempt any of the Wilson brothers. One is married and the other two have had a string of beautiful girlfriends. Despite Luke's admission he'd do drag if the right role came along and playing opposite a gay Dean Cain in Best Men, the only six-packs they'd be interested in getting to know better would be of the lager variety.
