It’s the concert we thought we could only dream about - all our favourite dykons on one stage on one fabulous evening. The Indigo Girls, kd lang, Melissa Etheridge, Tegan and Sara and Annie Lennox - they’re all going to be there. Well, maybe not quite.
Following on the success of three top L of a Nights, Rhoda McClure and Belinda O’Hooley, of Freshly Squeezed, are bringing together a whole host of talent for an L of a Tribute Night.
Although there will be no Matthew Kelly and no smoke billowing from the famous doors, it will be a stroll down memory lane for Ms O’Hooley. Seven years ago, Belinda wowed the nation when she won the grand final of TV’s popular Stars in their Eyes, performing Annie Lennox’s ‘Why’ and Belinda will be reliving her time as the Eurhythmics singer at St David’s Hall, Cardiff , on 29 March 2008.
“I'm on the no-food diet at the moment in preparation for slipping into Annie Lennox's clothes for the second time!,” the singer/songwriter commented.
“I think this is going to be such a special L of a Night. Imagine a concert where all your idols are performing together - it just wouldn't happen would it? Well it's going to happen on the 29 March!”
Belinda won’t be the only singer making a repeat tribute. Al Start has already appeared as kd lang.
“I'm really looking forward to the night of a thousand tributes! I have to confess this is my second ’tribute to’ or outing as kd - long time ago, long story,” Start told us.
“I can't wait, it's going to be a blast. Expect the unexpected…”
Joining Al and Belinda on the bill will be Greymatter, who went down a storm when they appeared as themselves on the Nottingham L of a Night bill last year. This time round, they will be paying homage to the fabulous Indigo Girls.
Lead singer Georgey Payne said: “We can't wait, Matthew! We’re really looking forward to it … it should be a real giggle.”
Canadian singing twins Tegan and Sara will also be part of the evening, thanks to Geekgirl. Lead singer Fi explained: “I have been a fan of Tegan and Sara since they had bad haircuts, and so when Freshly Squeezed asked us to take part in the tribute night there was no question as to whose music I wanted to play.
“But as we're a three-piece and I'm the only girl, we had to adopt a temporary fourth member, Tracey Browne, our producer, who also happens to be a singer-songwriter.
“Apparently I'm quite obviously Tegan... I'm not quite sure what that's supposed to mean? Thankfully Tracey is as equally excited about their music as I am!
“For years we've tried to support them on their English dates, but I can settle for pretending to BE them, even if it does seem a little stalker-ish! What the heck. They rock, and we hope to do them justice.”
The tribute line-up is completed by Tara Simms who will be performing as the great Melissa Etheridge.
And the entertainment doesn’t stop there. The ever popular Horse will be making a special guest appearance and there will be comedy from Zoe Lyons.
