Casa de Mañana is located in the Pacific Coast region of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, in the small town of Playa Junquillal (Hoon-kee-yall). Playa Junquillal is a quiet and safe beach town where women and GLBT travellers will feel safe and welcome.
The town is home to approximately 120 permanent residents comprised of both Tico's (locals to Costa Rica) and foreigners alike. You'll find one of the country's largest and most beautiful untouched beaches surrounded by an incredible landscape and an abundance of wildlife, from howler monkeys to parrots. In fact, you're sure to see and hear the wonderful sounds of the tropics around every turn.
We caught up with owners Keith and Al to find out more about unspoilt Costa Rica.
What made you decide to open your B&B?
We have been looking in Costa Rica for many years and finally found the right property where we could retire - but share it with others until that time comes.
Who runs it?
Keith and Al Toney.
In your opinion, what is its best feature?
Just being in Costa Rica, it’s heaven on earth!
What’s been the most memorable moment for you while running the guesthouse?
We have just started renting the house, although we have been coming to Costa Rica for eight years and have nothing be great memories.
And the worst?
So far there haven’t been any so we don’t know, yet!
Is there a gay scene nearby?
Not really, but there should be. The long stretches of beaches are perfect for private sunbathing.
What is there to do in the local area?
Swim, surf, scuba, snorkel, hike, relax, unwind, fish and dine out.
Is there an `average` gay traveller who uses your accommodation?
People who come to Costa Rica do so because it is so unspoilt, so we are expecting people who will appreciate the beauty of this wonderful country.
What sort of clientele are you hoping to attract?
We are hoping to draw a larger gay following to this area. Manuel Antonio is not the gay scene it used to be due to over development. Playa Junquillal is the perfect location to get away from it all, but be close enough to everything else when you need it.
What services and facilities do you offer?
A two bedroom, one bath fully furnished home with all of the amenities. Except TV - leave that at home!
What are your cooked breakfasts and meals like and do you have a vegetarian option?
It’s self catering.
Where do you like to go when you go on holiday?
Costa Rica of course!
The big pitch! Why should people holiday in your guesthouse?
We have been travelling to Costa Rica for eight years and have absolutely fallen in love. We have been all over the country on our own and have always felt safe and welcome. Although we have seen many different areas of the country, we have always come back to Playa Junquillal to decompress.
Playa Junquillal is a beautiful beach town on the northern Pacific Coast with some of the largest and most beautiful untouched beaches in the country. The wildlife is amazing and the sunsets will take your breath away!
