Even wearing a skirt didn’t stop the machismo oozing out of this hunk – and standing at a strapping 6' 3'' that meant he was wearing a mini!
Eric Bana has made a name for himself playing macho roles. He was beefy and bearded in Chopper as notorious criminal Mark ‘Chopper’ Read. He was Sgt. Gibson in Ridley Scott’s Somalian war pic Black Hawk Down, had a temper tantrum in Ang Lee’s Hulk and played a Mossad agent in Steven Spielberg’s Munich. Even wearing a skirt in Troy didn’t stop the machismo oozing out of him – and standing at a strapping 6' 3'' that means he was wearing a mini.
In Lucky You Eric stars opposite Drew Barrymore as hotshot poker player Huck Cheever. If Totty Watch were playing against Eric we’d jack it up with an all-in situation, bluff him through the backdoor and then give the dealer a toke.
Name
Eric Banadinovich
Vitals
Born on 9 August 1968 in Melbourne, Australia.
Blind Stud Poker
In Lucky You Eric plays a card shark with a name that sounds like a 70s porn star. Described as ‘Hustle 10, Commitment 0’, he plays poker and women with equal skill. Drew Barrymore falls for his shuffle, but he’s bluffing when he tells her he loves her because Huck is more concerned in winning the 10 grand he needs to buy into the World Series. The only trouble is he has a bad habit of gambling away cash every time he gets his hands on it.
So Macho
“It was a difficult, hard shoot,” Eric says of making Hulk. “I think you see every ounce of sweat on the screen.”
Normally Totty Watch loves a bit of sweat on its men, not when it’s green though because then it’s more like runny snot.
Eric got into such a tizzy playing geneticist Bruce Banner we’re glad he’s decided not to make the two sequels. Man of emotional steel Edward Norton must know something we don’t as he’s just started pre-production on The Incredible Hulk. Hopefully the grass will be greener second time around.
Ace in the Hole
In sandals and skirts epic Troy Eric played Trojan prince Hector opposite Brad Pitt’s Achilles. Pitt personally requested Eric to be his co-star because he was a huge fan of Chopper. Poor Eric had never ridden a horse before and had to start from scratch without a saddle. Ouch! We’re getting goose bumps just thinking about his chaffed thighs.
Those Spartans are always fighting about something or other. On this particular occasion randy Orlando Bloom seduces Sparta’s queen Helen of Troy and sets off a war that lasts for ten years. Eric would have forgiven him though and fell in fondness with Orlando when they worked on Black Hawk Down.
He says of his co-star, “I already loved Orlando like a little brother before we started shooting. You have to take care of Orlando. He doesn't even know how to make coffee.” Ah. Bless.
I Bet You Didn’t Know…
He gained 30 pounds for his lead role in Chopper.
Eric was a stand-up comedian 10 years before he became an actor. He worked on TV sketch show Full Frontal for three years and even had his own comedy talk show called The Eric Bana Show Live, in 1997.
His idols are Richard Pryor, Paul Newman and Barry Humphries. Make of that what you will!
He races historic muscle cars in his spare time just like the one Steve McQueen drove in Bullitt and Bo and Luke drove in The Dukes of Hazzard. He recently crashed his painstakingly restored 1974 Ford XB Coupé into some trees during a rally in Tasmania, but emerged uninjured.
He was once a contender to play 007, but the lovely Daniel Craig pipped him to the post.
Availability
There’s not much chance of fiddling with Eric’s chips as he’s married with two children and jets back to Oz as soon as he’s finished shooting a movie. It’s a bum deal.
