In 1979 Elton John became the first western pop act to play Soviet Russia. This epochal recording of this tour will be released on a Silver Anniversary edition DVD on the 15 March 2004 – just in time for Elton John’s birthday.

Elton John, whose career in music spans more than four decades, has won numerous awards including an Oscar and 5 Grammy Awards!

Produced and directed by Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement (Porridge, Auf Wiedersehen Pet) this DVD contains extended footage of his Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) concert along with behind-the-scenes interviews, tour footage and personal insights.

The flamboyant, Watford-born superstar came to a population repressed by decades of harsh living under totalitarian rule with little exposure to music and dancing of any kind. Initially subdued the audience are soon brought to their feet by Elton’s charisma and energy.

All his best known hits are featured including: 'Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting’, ‘Your Song’, ‘Daniel’, ‘Pinball Wizard’ and, of course, a cover of ‘Back in the USSR’.

Previously unavailable on DVD, this fantastic Silver Anniversary release of To Russia With Elton will be a welcome treat for fans of the legendary performer.
