Step forward the new James Bond, aka blonde hunk Daniel Craig, who’s certainly shaken our martinis and caused something else to be stirred! He may have been a controversial choice for some fans, but the sexy actor has a body to die for and is constantly stripping off to show us his chiselled chest. What’s more, he isn’t afraid to put it about with other guys as he’s played gay in the past and will so again in his next film, Infamous, released on 19 January 2007.
But it’s Casino Royale (which, incidentally, was rather disastrously made into a movie in 1967) that we’re interested in as it promises to be much darker, tougher and grittier than previous films with more character and less gadgets.
The lovely Craig even aims to take the sexually adventurous 007 to new places, telling the Daily Mirror, "In today's world we expect female actresses to go naked so why not men? I have told bosses I'm prepared to do a full frontal scene. I'm not shy and Bond wouldn't be shy about it either."
This willingness to do the full Monty and play queer has got a lot of gay men gagging to see Casino Royale - the 21st film in the Bond franchise which is also adaptation of Ian Fleming's first 007 novel – and Craig has begun to be mobbed by admiring males fans who are more interested in him than the spy. "I was out recently and all these gay guys were over me like a rash, but they never ask about the Bond plot," Craig said.
So, it’s time to find out more about this top piece of totty. After all he’s said that he wants to take the Bond character, “somewhere maybe where it's never gone before” and we’d be happy to show him exactly where we had in mind!
Roll on the gorgeous beefcake who proudly takes his place amongst some of the most famous hunks of all time: Pierce Brosnan, Sir Sean Connery, Sir Roger Moore, George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton.
Name
Daniel Craig

Born on 11 November 1968 in Chester.
Famous For
Rugged and charming all rolled into one, Daniel has the ability to look like a bit-of-rough hod-carrier or a stuff-shirted corporate banker. Or a gay pill-popping petty criminal for that matter, as he did in Love is the Devil, the story of the tortured love affair between Francis Bacon and George Dyer. When the would-be burglar Dyer broke into Bacon's house, Bacon invited him to stay for a shag before stealing the contents of his home. He was still there seven years later, but the masochistic relationship, alcoholism and drug abuse got the better of him and eventually he committed suicide.
Daniel has been quietly working in British theatre and screen for some years now and is thankfully getting the attention he deserves. He's no wimp when it comes to controversial roles. "I love obsessiveness in movies. I love being twisted," he told The Independent.
Early Gay Roles
He starting his career with a part in Tony Kushner's gay fantasia Angels in America at the National, which was one of the defining theatrical events of the 1990s. Recently he was seen seducing a 67-year-old granny in Hanif Hureishi's The Mother and in Enduring Love he's fighting off the unwanted affections of creepy Rhys Ifans by sticking his tongue down his throat - I'm sure there's logic in there somewhere.
In fact, our Daniel is just so sexy that Rhys decides he's in love with him and stalks him until he surrenders and kisses Rhys passionately. Glad to see that Rhys isn't the only one who's got the hots for Daniel - is it an offence to become a professional stalker?
His relationship with style icon Kate Moss has ensured he gets his picture in the tabloids and accepting the lead role in the best British gangster movie for years, Layer Cake, was a shrewd move.
What About His New Gay Film?
When Infamous premiered at the Venice Film Festival it became one of the hottest topics of conversation due to the fact that there’s a passionate kiss between Craig and another man. The film documents the life of Truman Capote and examines his emotional journey into the minds of two killers that formed the core of his true-crime novel, In Cold Blood.
Craig plays convicted killer Perry Smith who forms a strong attachment to Capote, played by British actor Toby Jones, and in a key scene the two men kiss. “I never dreamed I’d kiss James Bond,” joke Toby Jones recently.. “Now that I’ve done it, I say I hope I’m just the first of many.”
So, Can We Expect A Gay Bond?
Producers are said to be keen to capitalise on Craig’s gay following, something that will only grow with the release of Infamous in January, and there are rumours that he’ll have a male love interest in the next Bond film. Apparently Bond 22 will be a follow up to Casino Royale and will see a homoerotic relationship develop between the spy and secret agent Felix Leiter, played by Jeffrey Wright.
"Bond will always be a hit with the ladies. But Daniel has a massive gay fan base and that can't be ignored. There will still be sexy Bond Girls. But the modern Bond will be more sensitive, ” an insider said recently.
Whether it happens or not remains to be seen, but we can dream can’t we?
Worth Knowing
Craig claims he didn't put his tongue in Rhys Ifans mouth when they kissed for Enduring Love, but Rhys says he did.
He was married at 23 and has a daughter in her teens.
Before Bond, Craig's only foray into the Hollywood mainstream was as Angelina Jolie's sidekick / love interest in Tomb Raider.
"I don't want to be dressing in costumes and pansying around," he told ES magazine.
"I'll talk about my work but if you want to talk about my personal life, forget it - it's nobody's fucking business," he told Marie Claire.
Availability
Contrary to his acting roles Daniel claims to be straight, but even if he wasn't, he'd never tell us.
