Soho gay bar Trash Palace is moving east.
The alternative, pop and indie bar, one of the long running Popstarz brands conceived by the late Simon Hobart, says the move from its current West End venue is due to soaring rents and dwindling venues, which it says are "killing the heart of London."
The building where Trash Palace currently lives, tucked away at the Leicester Square end of Wardour Street, is being sold.
The new Trash Palace will reopen atop a new outpost for sister club Ghetto in Old Street, which will be open in December this year.
"The New Trash Palace will live in a bigger funkier space with more loos. We can't wait for you to see it, it really is amazing," says Tommy Moss from the Trash Palace and Ghetto team.
"There's a conservatory area and everything. It also means that the two venues can be linked for club nights giving us two rooms of tunes and countless creative opportunities to keep you kids entertained."
Between the end of October and when the new venue opens, a temporary Trash Palace will be in place at Ghetto Soho every day from 8pm.
"We're even going to decorate Ghetto to look like Trash Palace for these early sessions. It'll be fun, sort of like a war bunker I imagine but with more booze and cuter lesbians," says Tommy.
"We're sorry to be leaving Soho, but soaring rents and dwindling venues are really killing the heart of London," he adds.
"Luckily London has a new exciting heart out East, where let's face it, all the best stuff happens these days."
"In fact Ghetto and Trash Palace's move marks the defining moment in London's gay history and from December 2008 the city will have 3 clearly defined gay villages, which is no bad thing; Soho for the Tourists and mainstream, Vauxhall for the late night sweaty dance clubs and The East End for the arty, studenty, wacky 'n weird and cutting edge stuff," he said.
A closing party for the current venue will be announced for later this month.
