Vox Pop: Favourite Superhero

Christian Bale returns as Batman this week.

But do prefer men in tights like Superman or Spiderman, or do you like them dark (and with tighter costumes) like Batman or the Phantom? Maybe you like them camp like Wonder Woman or Flash Gordon?

Who is your favourite superhero?

Leave your comments here and we'll post a selection of them in next week's article.

Vox Pop: Favourite Superhero

I could leave a long list of many favourite superheroes here, but the ones that spring to mind are Catwoman, Wonder Woman and Batman – and I'm admiring them all for different reasons.

Wonder Woman was pure cheese when it aired in the 70's (of course I'm too young to remember when it was broadcast originally, so I'm talking 'You Tube' and DVD re-issues here!) But can anyone tell me what happened to her handbag when she spun round during her transformation phase? It always bugged me as a kid how it just vanished in a puff of smoke. Looking back, these episodes haven't aged terribly well but that's part of its charm.

Catwoman is another fave but certainly NOT Halle Berry's dreadful performance in the cheap movie from 2004. Michelle Pfeifer's performance in 'Batman Returns' wins hands down here – flashing between a fiery, ice-cold and sexed up performance – one of her best roles to date. I still think that Siouxsie Sioux (who featured on the soundtrack with her Banshees, singing 'Face To Face') should have taken her role, but Pfeifer played the leather-clad pussy brilliantly, and with a fabulously frosty bite.

And sex appeal is why I'm nominating Batman. But do I need to divulge when he's staring us all in the face with a leather mask on?

I'm a huge superhero and comic book fan.  One of the earliest superhero's I remember is the uber camp He-man, I mean a man who walks round with bulging muscles in a harness, pants and boots, brandishing his sword at every available opportunity.  She-ra was also fab, but lets not forget the amazing Thundercats, who were also incredibly gay, especially Tigra - and Cheetara is still an icon of my childhood the only woman in my opinion thats ever carried off the leopard spot look other than Bet lynch from Corrie.

X-men has to be my favorite band of superheroes though, especially Storm and I think Halle Berry was great although she was god awful in Catwoman through no fault of her own.  Not forgetting how sexy Hugh Jackman looked in that films as well, imagine the scratches he'd give ya!

The superhero I would really like to see on the big screen would be Michael and Justin's 'Rage' from Queer as Folk. The whole idea behind that plot is that there was no gay superhero icon. Seriously, why do the straights get all the muscly men in tights?

My favourite super hero is, without a doubt, Reed Richards (aka Mr Fantastic from the Fantastic Four).

And no, it's because of his, err, 'abilities', It's because he's polite. He's clean, He's civilised. He's smart. If the toaster broke, he'd probably re-engineer a new one that also puts butter on the toast and reads the paper out to us on Friday's.
